Nadia’s Story
Working around my health and family
Before joining the Success Programme, Nadia worked in podiatry. It paid well, but the job didn't bring her any joy. Wanting to be at home more, initially for her dog and later to manage her health better and care for her daughter, Nadia knew something had to change.
Moving from a steady job to starting her own business with no clients was a huge step. It was scary, but Nadia's need for a flexible work environment that could accommodate her health issues and her daughter's needs pushed her to take the leap.
Joining the Success Programme in November 2022 was a turning point for her. Starting with zero background in bookkeeping, Nadia worked her way through the course alongside her bookkeeping studies. Fast forward to 2024, she's nearly Level 4 qualified and running a business that brings in a stable £28k a year.
But it wasn't just about the business skills. Through the programme, Nadia found a community. It was a big shift from her old job, where she felt isolated. Now, she has friends in the bookkeeping world, showing her that work can also be about connection and shared values.

Annabel’s Story
Building a practice from the ground up
In the wake of the pandemic, Annabel faced a pivotal moment. She founded Bluebells Bookkeeping in 2020 so that she could maintain her career whilst being able to provide support and care for her young family. Annabel knew she wanted to build a sustainable, profitable business, but she’d never done this before.
Annabel applied the lessons from The 6 Month Success Programme. Her practice began to flourish, her team expanded, and she achieved a milestone that once seemed out of reach—bringing her husband into the business as a partner. Month by month, her practice grew, eventually reaching the coveted 6-figure mark.
Bluebells Bookkeeping was a finalist at The Accounting Excellence Awards in 2023 in the category of Bookkeeping Team of the Year, and Annabel was named Bookkeeper of the Year at The Bookkeepers’ Awards 2023.

Karen’s Story
Growing to £300k turnover
Karen, a former Finance Director at a college, found herself at a crossroads during the lockdown. With two young children at home and her husband at work, Karen's work-life balance was non-existent, turning "night into day" to meet her responsibilities. The stress of trying to keep a college afloat with no students led her to reconsider her future plans. Karen took the bold decision to start her own practice amidst the pandemic with zero clients.
Signing up for the Success Programme in July 2020 equipped Karen with the essential tools to lay down strong foundations for her fledgling business. Karen attributes her ability to place and maintain good profit margins while avoiding early mistakes to the programme. The Success Programme steered her away from traditional practice thinking and towards a more innovative approach, perfectly aligning with her vision and values.
As her business has grown, Karen has decided to build her team by training apprentices—a decision that demands more time and resources but is in line with her commitment to giving back to the community. This approach is offering local youth employment opportunities and also allowing Karen to shape a new generation of tech-savvy, digital accountants. This yeae, Karen’s practice boasts a projected turnover of £300k with excellent profit margins and an NPS score of 100, a testament to her hard work, community values and the solid foundation provided by the Success Programme.

Nicola’s Story
Career change after redundancy
Nicola was made redundant from a corporate role as a Payroll Manager. She didn't want to jump back on the corporate wheel and decided to make a change.
Nicola’s first thoughts were to start a payroll consultancy/bureau business, but her research into other local payroll businesses inspired her to take her bookkeeping qualifications.
Nicola studied levels 2, 3 and 4 in bookkeeping and advanced accounting and passed all of her exams in the 12 months up to August 2021. She also found the 6 Figure Bookkeepers Club and signed up to the 6-month Success Programme in March 2021 to help her understand how to set up and grow a bookkeeping business.
Nicola now runs a thriving 6-figure bookkeeping practice, Virtual Accounts & Taxes and a 6-figure payroll bureau business, The Payroll Team, and she employs six other people, four of whom are my family. Nicola has been a finalist for many awards and won Best New Business in the Female Business Network Awards in 2022 and Bookkeepers Hero in the Bookkeepers Awards 2023 due to her work as an ambassador in the 6 Figure Bookkeepers Group, helping and supporting other aspiring bookkeepers.

Amelia’s Story
I know I am ahead of other bookkeepers
I have worked in finance roles for over 15 years, from small family-run businesses to large multinationals. I specialised in Accounts Payable roles, specifically around travel and expenses. I led a global team that managed the travel and expenses of over 13,000 employees. This meant I was on calls at 7 a.m. some mornings and 7 p.m. some evenings.
In 2022, after my first baby's arrival, I faced the dilemma of continuing my career or sacrificing time with my daughter. I requested a part-time return to my role and was advised it wasn’t an option. Having lost my mother to cancer at the age of just 12, I knew how important family time was, so I walked away from the security of my job and started my own business.
I found Jo & Zoe and the 6FB community in October 2022. After a quick call with Zoe, I knew I had found the support and community I needed to start my business. I immediately purchased the six-month success program and launched my company in January 2023.
Before joining the 6FB, I knew very little about running a business; I had never worked in practice before, and no support was available from my accounting body in Ireland or any other group here. I had a lot of mindset work to do. After following the advice in the program (with some minor tweaks to suit Ireland), I am continuing to build my business. I know I am now ahead of other bookkeepers in Ireland regarding AML compliance, technology, and mindset. I have the confidence to help these fellow bookkeepers follow a better path by being the first Irish 6FB ambassador. I was also a finalist in the first Irish Xero awards for “Emerging Firm of the Year” in 2024.
I am free to be with the kids (I had my second baby in February 2024) while working hours that suit my family. I don’t need to ask permission to go on holiday or take a day off. Yes, being responsible for bringing in business and ensuring the bills are paid is scary, but had I not found the 6FB, I would have been charging a miserable hourly rate and probably be back in a job by now.
